Privacy Policy.

Last updated: May 2026

This policy explains what information regexguide.com collects, what we don't, how third parties involved in running this site use data, and what your rights are.

1. What we don't collect

regexguide.com does not collect, log, store, or transmit any of the following:

  • The regular expressions you paste into the explainer
  • The test strings you enter
  • The match results
  • Any personal information you might happen to type into the tool

The parser, explainer, and tester all run in your browser. Open your browser's Network panel before typing — you'll see no outbound requests carrying your regex content.

2. What we do collect

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited and how the site is being used. This is anonymous, aggregate data — it tells us, for example, that 1,200 people visited the patterns library last week, but not who those people were.

Our advertising providers (Google AdSense and Adsterra) collect information needed to serve and target advertisements. See sections 4 and 5 for what they do specifically.

3. Google Analytics 4

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (tracking ID: G-2VSZGE3GHB) to measure traffic. GA4 collects:

  • Pages you visit and how long you stay
  • How you arrived at the site (search engine, referral link, direct)
  • General geographic region (country/city level)
  • Browser, operating system, screen resolution
  • Anonymized IP address

Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. To opt out of Google Analytics across all sites, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Google AdSense

We may display ads served by Google AdSense to support the site. When AdSense is active, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve relevant ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

For industry-wide opt-out, see:

5. Adsterra

We use Adsterra as an additional advertising network. Adsterra may use cookies and similar technologies to deliver and measure ads. They may collect IP address, device/browser data, and ad-interaction data.

Adsterra's privacy policy: adsterra.com/privacy-policy.

6. Cookies

This site uses cookies in these categories:

  • Strictly necessary — for example, remembering your light/dark theme preference. Stored in localStorage on your device.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics sets _ga and related cookies to count unique visitors.
  • Advertising — Google AdSense and Adsterra may set cookies for ad targeting.

You can clear cookies through your browser settings at any time. Doing so will reset your theme preference but otherwise will not affect site functionality.

7. GDPR rights (EU/UK)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR:

  • Right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — correct inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restriction — limit how we process your data
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Right to withdraw consent — where consent is the legal basis
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

Our legal bases for processing: legitimate interest (analytics and site operation) and consent (advertising cookies, where required).

To exercise these rights, email contactus@regexguide.com. We respond within 30 days. To file a complaint with a supervisory authority, see the UK ICO or the EDPB members directory for your country.

8. CCPA/CPRA rights (California)

If you are a California resident, you have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect about you
  • Right to delete personal information we have collected
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information
  • Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights

Sale or sharing may apply. Some advertising cookies may qualify as "sale" or "sharing" under California law. You can opt out below:

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

You can also send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal through your browser — we honor GPC where required.

9. Other US state laws

Residents of Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), Texas (TDPSA), Oregon (OCPA), and Montana (MCDPA) have similar rights to those described above for California. To exercise them, email contactus@regexguide.com.

10. Data retention

Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention period (currently 14 months). Advertising data retention is governed by Google and Adsterra's policies — see their privacy policies linked above.

We do not maintain a database of users. There is no account system and no per-user record of activity on this site.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and announce it on the homepage. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
